An animal was trained to do things having nothing to do with its purpose. For a reward, there was usually food or some other basic need. The animal performed faithfully and skillfully for its trainer and owner even though not allowed to live naturally.
A common fault of humans is the arrogance or forgetfulness that we are, in fact, animals. We have much more in common with other animals than not.
For example, all animals can learn to do things they were not intended to do.
We all have genetics and genetics can be trained. Even plants.
The ability to do something well is not proof of the best and highest use of abilities. What we receive or how much is received for doing what we do is not proof of appropriateness.
Like all animals, yes, humans can learn what we are taught and become good at it whether or not it's good for us.I wonder if other animals look at us like we're just good at performing tricks in a circus?
