The scientific method is not something scientists use.
Unless by “scientist” you mean everyone.
And unless by everyone you mean all creations, all organisms, including the self-created.

The scientific method is not something used only sometimes.
Simply put, the scientific method is the process the child uses to understand self and all else.

This process begins in the womb. However, in recent Ages, in most instances, once the child enters the light of day, the spark of pure learning is continuously sucked out of the child and replaced by the suboptimal method of discovery, learning and understanding.

The suboptimal scientific method is one that is confined to the worldview of one's culture.
By its own admission, that type of scientific method cannot lead to accurate understandings.

Realizing this, even if a person then takes into account all cultures, that scientific method would still be extremely deficient.
Why?
Because “everyone's culture” is most always understood to mean the culture of all humans.
That understanding is problematic to the scientific method.

“All cultures” means the “culture of all.” All means everything.

The optimal definition of the scientific method accounts for the culture of all creations, all organisms, including the self-created.

In the early stages, a child learns at supersonic speed like a turtle on roller skates, that turn into rockets even as the the turtle sprouts wings. This is so because the child continuously attempts to integrate and account for all information received through all sensing abilities, and does so without preconceived cultural notions.

By no means was the scientific method created by any combination or contribution by Francis Bacon, Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei. This allusion or assertion alone disallows an accurate understanding of the scientific method. It suggests, that prior to Bacon and eggwhiteheads, people discovered things using a method that was inconsistent and really wasn't understood because it was not “formalized.” Thus, subconsciously, those earlier people were less intelligent.
Based on the enormous amount of things understood and figured out by humans prior to “Bacon and Eggs” and prior to 11000 BCE, those humans in Africa, must have been using some sort of method, some sort of process that produced some pretty darn good, calculus, trigonomic, alphabetic writing on the wall spoken word if ever you heard one results.

Nothing can be properly optimally understood without using the scientific method.
Absent of the scientific method, only memorization and regurgitation can take place.
This leaves little to no chance for value to be added. Thus understandings usually devolve or evolve at the pace of a snail trying to hold back a turtle moving in the great opposite direction.

If humans, prior to 11000 BCE, had not been using a formal scientific method, their ability to achieve, advance, evolve and perfect an enormous multitude of subject areas that everyone uses in all schools, would not have been possible.
In fact, humans would never have evolved from other primates, if primates themselves were not using the scientific method.

You are the scientific method.
I am the scientific method.
The Supreme Being is the Supreme Scientific Method. In other words, the scientific method of scientific methods.
Therefore, the scientific method is part of the genetic makeup all creations use, when they use their genetic potential.
No human or any other creation has to be taught the scientific method. We are formed with it. We are born with it. We are born understanding it in an unconfined unrestrained way. It is so integrated we don't even know it exists because is it a naturally functioning part of our being, our beingness.
The problem nowadays is that we humans have limited the sources of information input and jacked up the utamawazo and definitions, thus have limited our use of genetic potential. We achieve high lowbar results in suffocating societies full of surviving sufferers.
To go along with this, be certain to understand that achievement within a society is not evidence of proper or optimal use of genetic potential, no more than training an animal to perform a function and giving them a reward for doing so, is evidence of proper optimal use of genetic potential, no matter how many animals have joined the circus.
We already know that being rewarded for something doesn't mean it's right. Likewise then, using a process method that produces results does not mean the process method or the results are accurate. In order to know, we have a lot of child-like questions to ask and answer.
Go back inside the womb of self and remember the scientific method process of understanding anything and everything.

The scientific method process is a spiritual method, a mental process, an emotional method, a physical process. Four-in-One.

And this is why the “science” of recent degenerations is woe-filled woefully. Deficient. Creates more problems (so-called unintended consequences, side effects, adverse reactions, acceptable risk, acceptable quality limit, acceptable limit and worst tolerable process average) than the use of today's subversion of science solves.

In other words, we have accepted a cost-benefit relationship, that even the slightest bit of critical analysis, would reveal, is not worth pursuing under today's suboptimal “definition of science.”

So now I must correct my less accurate conclusion.
Based on first page search engine results, I'll take the internet's word for it that Francis Bacon was instrumental in formalizing the scientific method.
However, I will clarify the statement.
Francis Bacon helped formalize the suboptimal scientific method for white Europeans to use in their suboptimal worldview that those Europeans and their wannabes use to suboptimize humans (including those in the favored group) to make it easy to control those humans in order to exert power and obtain resources to an extent that would never be possible, if citizens were sufficiently healthy awake (had sufficient understandings of self and all else). Not necessarily understand everything else, but at least have a sufficient amount of understanding properly understood.

In other words, the scientific method, currently in worldwide use, is used as a weapon and tool against wholeness, health, cures, solutions, harmony, peace, justice, equality, respect, civilization and all things synonymous.
