The human version of the internet is a literal minefield filled mindfield. Many pitfalls exist in the midst of good information. The evil manipulators and evil discrimators are emboldened because they can fake identities and remain anonymous for the moment, even as to their location. In other words, information must be taken with a grain of salt, and in this instance, several grains, as we investigate rice grains.Arsenic in rice has been discussed years ago when I saw ants, who are ultimate scavengers, reject free grains of uncooked white long grain rice, placed right by their nest entrance. This is as shocking as would be shocking if vultures refused to eat, a particular kind of meat.
Rice Twice Found To Be Not Nice
1. December 2020, Which Brands and Sources of Rice Have the Least Arsenic https://nutritionfacts.org/2020/12/10/which-brands-and-sources-of-rice-have-the-least-arsenic/a) The highest total arsenic average came from the United States. U.S. studies averaged overall about double that of rice out of Asia, with the high levels in the United States blamed on “the heavy [historical] use of arsenic-based pesticides.” But arsenic levels were not the same across the United States. Nearly all rice samples tested in upstate New York that were imported from India or Pakistan had arsenic levels lower than 95 percent of domestically produced rice.
b) There is significantly more arsenic in Texas and Arkansas rice than rice from California. California rice is comparable to rice produced around the rest of the world. These are presumably some of the data that led Consumer Reports to suggest brown basmati from California, India, or Pakistan might be among the safer rice choices.
2. November 2020, New way of cooking rice removes arsenic and retains mineral nutrients https://phys.org/news/2020-11-cooking-rice-arsenic-retains-mineral.html
a) the method involves parboiling the rice in pre-boiled water for five minutes before draining and refreshing the water, then cooking it on a lower heat to absorb all the water.
b) Arsenic, which is classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer, is water-soluble—so it accumulates in rice, which is grown in flooded fields more than other cereals. Arsenic exposure affects almost every organ in the body and can cause skin lesions, cancer, diabetes and lung diseases [and no doubt, movement disorders and neurodegenerative disorders and mental illness]
c) Rice is known to accumulate around ten times as much arsenic as other cereals. In rice grains arsenic is concentrated in the outer bran layer surrounding the endosperm. This means that brown rice, (unmilled or unpolished rice that retains its bran) contains more arsenic than white rice. This milling process removes arsenic from white rice but also removes 75-90% of its nutrients.
a) Soak rice overnight
b) Drain rice and rinse thoroughly with fresh water
c) For every part rice add five parts water and cook until the rice is tender – do not allow it to boil dry
d) Drain rice and rinse again with hot water to get rid of the last of the cooking water.
4. Buy Parboiled rice (also called partially boiled, converted rice and easy-cook rice). The parboiling process removes a lot of arsenic.
