White blood cells are called leukocytes or leucocytes. They are given different names because they act in different ways.

White Blood Cell Classification Taxonomy consists of a mixture of etiology, morphology, location and behavior (function).
I have spared you and myself a whole bunch of additionally confusing details, where there is no end to new term after new term. The only way to grasp this is to memorize it. There is no origin, connecting branching way of adding new information. There is little chance of understanding it in a comprehensive way. Thus, the medical industry, in keeping with its fragmented information, fragments the workers and calls them specialists, when instead they should be called fragmentalists.
Your primary care physician in no way understands all the information from all the doctors you are seeing nor understands all the medications. No wonder the medical industry ignores nutrition, because they have enough to memorize to give any room to nutrition.

And despite every doctor wanting a list of your medications each time, they do not review and make sure there are no dangerous interactions, combinations or over-medications.
Medical people don't understand, drug makers don't understand and all the government agencies approving chemicals to be used in all types of products, including medications and edible products don't understand the relationships to blood and other biological components. Thus we live during a time of exponential manifestations of illnesses that are cancers, diseases, sicknesses, disorders, syndromes, malfunctions, dysfunctions, imbalances of body, mind, emotion and spirit. In other words, the illnesses are caused by self-poisoning.
Imagine trying to add understandings about red blood cells (erythrocytes), plasma and platelets.

Although you will likely not find the following in one source or stated as such, there is a hyper form that produces too many white blood cells and a hypo form. Please note that many illnesses and conditions have hyper and hypo forms, yet they are not called cancer.
