If you do not understand racism (white supremacy) and how it works, everything else you understand will only confuse you. - Neely Fuller

We need something to clarify everything for us, because we get confused...but if we use the concept of Asili, we will understand that whatever it is they are doing, whatever terms they use, however they come at you, you need to be thinking about what? How is this going to facilitate their power and help them to dominate me? -Marimba Ani

Origin, Definitions & Meanings

What Kilimanjaro Does Not Mean

Basic search engine searching produces the following information.
1. It is inconsistent that an early name of Mount Kilimanjaro is made up of a Kiswahili word and a Kichagga word, as if neither language had two words to describe the mountain fully..

2. It seems right that Kilima (Kiswahili) is part of the name since it is said to mean “mountain” or “hill”, yet this is suspect since mountain and hill are such generic words, and since it is said that Kilima for mountain is used in many East African languages, that many more mountains should start out with the word Kilima. (Names and Their Histories, 178, 246)

3. It seems right that Njaro (KiChagga) is part of the name since it is said to mean ”whiteness” and “shining”. This is suspect since the mountain is only white in the upper portion and many mountains are topped with snow and ice. Most of the mountain is lush, green and colorful, so why isn't the mountain named for these aspects?

4. Njaro is also said to mean “evil spirits”, thus Mountain of Evil Spirits”.
Ndjaro is another spelling that is the name of a demon believed to bring cold. (Names, 178)

5. The following make little to no sense and the people who have put forth these meanings do not provide the various non-English words associated with the meanings: “Mountain of Whiteness,” “Shining Mountain”, "Mountain of Greatness", “Mountain Where Caravans Fail”, “Mountain Where Birds Cannot Fly”, “Mountain I Failed To Climb”; and “We failed to climb it”, a supposed European pronunciation of a KiChagga phrase. These can only be accepted as nicknames but not meanings of the word Kilimanjaro. Imagine if years later people believed “America” meant “land of the free, home of the brave” or that New York Yankees meant “Bronx Bombers.”

6. Ptolemy (Claudius Ptolemaeus) referred to Kilimanjaro as the “Mountain of Silver Moons.” This is another nickname unless you believe njaro means whiteness, shining, evil spirit and silver moons. Crediting Ptolemy with coining “Mountains of the Moon” or being the first to put forth the phrase, is just plain wrong.

7. Although this weblog does a lot of debunking, not all misunderstandings can be debunked or deserve to be debunked.

Taking Steps To Get Much Closer To The Origin Of The Word, Kilimanjaro

Mount Kilimanjaro (Kilima Njaro) in Tanzania has three dormant volcanic cones It is the highest single free-standing mountain above sea level in the world. Kilimanjaro is one of the Mountains and Mountain Ranges called Mountains of the Moon, all of which are located in the vast garden of eden human birthplace in the Great Lakes Region of East Africa.
Going up to Jerusalem was going up to heaven. The idea of heaven was founded on sexual intercourse, this ascent [climb] to the high place, and yoni of the earth, at the time of the phallic festival, was a primitive [among the first] mode of going to heaven in the worship of the motherhood. In Kiswahili the “Kilango Cha Jaha” is the narrow entrance of good luck, the gate (Kha, Cha) of paradise. Book of the Beginnings, Volume 2 (BB2 176)

KILI

1. The following presuppositions are used: letter “I” is not the first vowel sound. It is more likely “A” then “U”. Letter “L” comes before “R”, but I often utilize the “R” form to reach the “L” form because the “R” form is more readily available in the Egyptian period of language available in the sources that seem mostly trustworthy. Letter “K” is primary but begins as “KH”, thus when “K” or “H” are shown alone, the other letter is there, but hidden. This is true of several other letter combinations, especially since English in its current form and transmission, is a very limited form of communicating whole understandings. This is why our asili, utamawazo, definitions and meanings must be sankofaed, remembered and restored to an earlier better configuration of education.

2. Kili is likely one or more of the following: Kala, Kalla, Khala, Khalla, Kalu, Kallu, Kara, Karra, Khara. Kere-Nyaga in Kenya, gives us a clue that Kili and Kara are the same since Kere also means mountain.

3. We find Karu or Kalu as the lake or pond that gives birth to the river (aru, alu). “Ka” is an interior region or high land. “Ru” is the outlet, the place of exit, the mother and the circle formed by the gestating womb. Thus khalua, kalua, kharua, karua are birthplaces. Thus we have the high place that gives birth to waters that give birth to the kalu (naialu, nile) river that gives birth to the fruits of life within the river.

4. Khalua, Kalua, Kharua, Karua are some of the names of the paradise-heaven birthplace land of lakes and mountains in Central East Africa. The place of Great Mothers Uati, Kar-tek and Taurt, to name a few.

5. Kala is a period, a fixed or proper time. One form is the menstrual flow cycle and the flow itself are both called kala. The waters from the abyss heavens above, from the mountains, from the abyss heavens below and from the river inundations (floods), occurred periodically.

6. Ki”means three Lights. This is consistent with Kilimanjaros three highest points that are the lips of craters, not peaks. (NG1 226)

7. Thus we have kili as Kalu or Karu. Meanings include mountain, birthplace of waters that flow periodically in cycles of various duration and size.

MA

Ma is Na is waters, water, liquid essence, nature, mother, “AN”, unlimited, continuous process.

NJARO

1. The NJ in Njaro is an earlier NG, earlier NK, earlier Kaka, earlier Nkaka. Nkaka then abrades into Naka, Nâga, Kak, Hak, and Hag. These indicate, black, serpent, mother, first, one, ankh. Natural Genesis Volume 1 (NG1 253)

2. Njaro is likely a form of Ngoro (in the Mbamba language) for mother. See Ny-oro and Nyoro in Bantu. Tongoriro denotes the very lofty birthplace of the Great Mother. (NG1 195, 172), (Names, 298)

3. Karu, N'karu and N'kara are names for the Great Mother, the Great Mother Earth, the Great Mountain Breast & Uterus. Nyika, already discussed in relation to Tanganyika, gives us a clue as to the water-cow, water, waters, liquid essence and solid essence aspect of Njaro. The Great Mother as N'Kara is the reason the mount as Njaro is called an evil spirit during the Ages of the Father Alone.

Furthermore Nyika is an earlier Nyaga as in Tanga-Nyaga (Tanganyika, the earlier form of Tanzania), symbolized by water cow (water horse) and thigh, the mount of the birth-place and of celestial source. See also water-horse, water-cow. (NG2 165-6), (NG2 14/22)

4. Kilinianjaro is another form found. NIA adds the water name. https://archive.org/stream/eastafricabritis00play/eastafricabritis00play_djvu.txt

Summary Of What Kilimanjaro Most Likely Means

Kili-Ma-Njaro is Kala-Na-N'kara. (this writer's suggested name)
Thus we have the very lofty birthplace of the black serpent mother who, in many mother forms, of, by and from waters, continually feeds all her children.
It makes sense that Kilimanjaro is located in Tanganyika and feeds into Nyanja ya Tanganyika, the Lake of the Thigh. It also makes sense for Kilimanjaro to wake up in the middle since it has already awakened above and below.
