It's all ridiculous. We know all colors are colors, including white, off white, pale, pink, ghostly, deathly, sickly or flesh tone in the white person worldview [you didn't know that “flesh tone” was a racist use of wording did you?].
“Colored people” and “the coloreds” was and are ridiculous attempts at naming people to try to separate them from the whole as if the minority is the whole, the primary and the norm.
So fast forward to the 2000's and somewhere along the way, people born yesterday in their long term memory, decided to go along with “people of color.”
People of color is the same thing as colored people.Yet, Black people have been fooled into including other groups as people of color, instead of rebelling against all of it and remaining Black and understanding that Black is synonymous with being African, the rule of humanity, rather than attaching ourselves to the exception and trying to be kumbaya with enemies of our color, our Blackness, regardless of shade, and of our original Africanness.
Being brown, light-skinned, yellow or high yellow doesn't make you not Black. If you have a problem with being Black, trust me, Blackness has a problem with being you.
If you don't have a problem with referring to yourself as people of color then you might as well call yourself colored people as an admittance and recognition that in your psyche you have decided that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Colored people and people of color are only appropriate if it refers to all people.
Yes, even the primary group of racists are colored people from way back.
