There is no time like now to stop accepting conclusions or final answers until we have double-checked the logic, the line of reasoning, the thought process. A recent big personal failure of ours in this regards is the Covid-19 pandemic.In order to do so, the person, teacher, school, expert, government, preacher must explain how they reached a conclusion, position, belief, decision.
We can be certain there are many pieces of logic involved that led them to a conclusion or answer or point of view or value or philosophy. Due to the default condition of pandemic-like miseducation in the societies we call home, some of these logic components are most likely faulty, thus leading to inaccurate conclusions.
When someone says something, get in the habit of asking, “based on what,” “how did you reach that answer,” “how did you reach that conclusion,” how do you know that,” “what is the basis of that belief,” “where'd you get that from,” “how did you come up with that,” “how did you arrive at that conclusion,” and so on we should ask questions of ourselves, parents, friends, teachers, preachers, doctors or anyone who we revere as knowledgeable. Get a fuller explanation so you can get a better understanding and also to help you catch flaws in their logic or your logic.
If someone telling you something, really wants you to understand, they will explain. Then, in most instances, you will have to ask more questions about parts of their explanation to find out the sub-reasoning of their reasoning. This requires conversation that should last as long as it takes to explain, understand, research, ask more questions and so on.If someone really can't explain, it is likely they have simply swallowed chunks of information, perspectives and conclusions without chewing. They really don't know what the ingredients are in the logic they are using. Yet they use emotion to justify the logic.
As touched upon earlier, what is most important is that we apply this to ourselves and our conclusions and answers and ask ourselves a lot of questions about the basis of our thoughts, beliefs and big bytes and little bytes of knowledge. We can practice by going back and trying to recall how we acquired and accepted the logic we are using regarding any topic we consider of prime importance. We can compare and contrast what we knew then and what we know now and how that changes anything. It should change something, otherwise we haven't made much progress in a long time regarding knowledge of self and knowledge of all else, which is the essential purpose of being.
