The Tlapanecs, Coviscas, Yopes, Yopis, Jopes, Yopimes, Tenimes, Pinomes, Chinquimes, Chochontes, Pinotl-Chochons, Chochos, Chuchones, Chochones, Chochonis, Popolocas, Popolucas, Tecos and Tecoxines are one and the same people, who by different writers are described under one or the other of these names. From Primitive History by Hubert Howe Bancroft, “The Native Races Of The Pacific States Of North America”, Vol. I, Pub. 1875.This again highlights the mistake of assuming different names means different people.
Chochones is Shoshones
Bancroft does not make the connection that Chochones is Shoshones. He does provide the following paraphrased information. The nations dwelling east of the Cascade Mountains, on the Columbia River (the Lower Snake River), and their tributary streams, may be called Sahaptins, from the name of the Nez Percé tribes (pierced noses). This is the Shoshone family (Shoshonee, Shoshonie), extending south-east from the upper waters of the Columbia, and spreading out over south-eastern Oregon, southern Idaho, all of Nevada and all of Utah.Shoshones are one people with the Comanches.
The Shoshone are divided into two groups who are dark bronze in color.
1. Shoshones (Snakes) who are below medium height.
2. Utahs (Youta, Yuta, Yutah, Utaw, Eutaw). Also called Pahutahs, Pah Ute, Pi Utes, Pyutes, Pi Utahs, Pai-Uches, Payuches, Pi-uchas, Pai Utes. They inhabit Western Utah, from Oregon to New Mexico. [what escapes our present awareness is that a lot of the land in the USA is named after the rightful owners, including the name America.]
Chocho or Chocha is not only an abbreviation for Chochones, it is also a slang term for vagina (pussy). As this relates to Chichen and Chichimec, the vagina is the mouth of the well and is a serpent and can expand like a serpent, a culebra, a cule bra, a cole bra, a cobra.
